Development and maintenance of an SOE (Standard Operating Environment) have long been considered complex, time consuming and highly specialised tasks. However the benefits of standardisation applied to the software used by organisations of more than just a few people have also been recognised as, potentially, the greatest contributors to reducing the costs of support and the incidence of problems among computer users.
Availability of the SOE Framework takes creation and ongoing management of an SOE to a new level, allowing you to create a complete, deployable SOE from a library of packaged applications in a few minutes. Common tasks associated with creating, deploying and maintaining an SOE are included in the SOE Framework and the user is prompted for appropriate information, where required.
In its simplest mode of operation, an SOE could be created by supplying as little as a server name, a set of credentials, Company Name, and Windows License key. For large organisations, where the number of necessary variants to an SOE has previously precluded effective adoption of the concept, the SOE Framework allows the benefits of standardisation with a minimum of extra effort.
Whether an SOE modification is prompted by changes to an application, updates to drivers or migration between operating environments, an SOE can now be updated when needed, rather than queuing change requests for months before applying them.
The benefits of this approach will enable organisations to ensure compliance with software standards throughout their user base, while still keeping pace with technology improvements. At the end user level, it will mean fewer software related problems, fewer interruptions to business processes and increased productivity.
The SOE Framework may be used independently or as part of the integrated RDMC (Remote Desktop Management Centre) systems management software package developed by SOE Software to combine inbuilt support for maintaining and updating SOEs with enterprise management capabilities into a single offering.
